Beer Research Institute

Throughout my 39 years on this spinning ball of water I have encountered so many who claim “man, I don’t give a shit. But you know what? They really did. Actually the ones who said they didn’t give a shit actually gave more shits than anyone else. But the dudes at Beer Research Institute do whatever the hell they want, make no apologies about it, and do it with authenticity. The goal was to open up a place that they would want to hang out at and make beers they would want to drink. And apparently they wanted to drink high octane beers. Seriously. The lightest beer I’ve had there was 5.8%. Not exactly an MDG 64. And that's a good thing. But the beers are also not a punch to the face with alcohol. All the beers I’ve had from Beer Research Institute have been super balanced, flavorful, and dangerously drinkable. Let's take the Anniversary IPA they had when we visited. It came in at a whopping 12%. But drank like a 7%. That one can sneak up on you REAL quick.

In this episode I sit down with owners Matt and Greg and their brewer Colby. We talk about opening a place where they would want to go, making the type of beer they want to drink and attracting the type of people they would want to hang out with. So far so good. Enjoy the show!
